Training

How?

1.
You will need to identify the name and dates of the course you wish to take. You may refer to our Course Calendar.
2.
For companies who contribute to HRDF, the calendar will tell you the scheme for the relevant courses.
3.
Download, print and complete the Course Registration Form. Please note that you are required to state your payment arrangements.
i.e. Company-Sponsored, Self-Sponsored and/or HRDF claim (if relevant).
4. Fax your application to +603 8926 3900 or email it to our Training Department.
5. Applicants are to be submitted a minimum of ONE (1) MONTH before the relevant course date. An offer letter will be issued to you / your company two (2) weeks before the date of the schedule course and your confirmation is required one week prior to its commencement.
6. Payment has to be made upon confirmation of the course. Action will be taken if full payment is not received by the end of the course.

What are the requirements necessary to attend NIOSH training courses?

THE REQUIREMENT VARIES DEPENDING ON THE TYPES OF COURSES.
1.
OSH Awareness Programmes
  • The courses are open to all and no requirements or qualifications are needed. You just need to complete our training application form and follow the procedures.
2.
Competency/ Cetificate Programmes
 
Safety and Health Officer Certificate Programme:
  • Minimum pass in SPM (Grade 3).
 
Occupational Health Doctor Certificate Programme:
  • Applicant has to be a medical practitioners registered with the Malaysian Medical Council. Please attach your MMC registration letter with the training application form.
 
Occupational Health Nurse Certificate Programme:
  • Applicant has to be a nurse registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board. Please attach your Nursing Board Registration letter with the training application form.
 
Hygiene Technician 1 & 2 Certificate Programme:
  • Minimum SPM with credit Mathematics and Science.
  • Other requirements may found in the Guidelines or The Registration of Assessor, Hygiene Technician and Occupational Helath Doctor or you may refer directly to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
 
Chemical Health Risk Assessment Certificate Programme:
  • Minimum Pass STPM, with credits in Chemistry at SPM level.
  • Other requirements may found in the Guidelines or The Registration of Assessor, Hygiene Technician and Occupational Helath Doctor or you may refer directly to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
 
Basic Scaffolding (Frame/ Tubular) Course:
  • Minimum six (6) year experience in a relevant field. Able to read and write.

Trainers Programmes
The requirement varies depending on the courses. 

Do I qualify to become a NIOSH facilitator / trainer?

You qualify if you:
1.
Possess a minimum Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety and Health and minimum five (5) years working experience in a related area, or
2.
Possess a minimum Bachelors Degree in Engineering Science, Chemistry, Medical, Health or Environment and a minimum five (5) years working experience in a related area, or
3.
Possess a minimum of then (10) years working experience in Occupational Safety and Health or a related area. and/or
4.
Possess any Competency Certificate recognized by the Government of Malaysia.
 

Membership

What are the benefits of being a NIOSH Member?

NIOSH Membership is aimed at developing a group of Members who are committed, professional, knowledgeable and skilled in the field of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment.

This includes :

  • Professionals involved in the design, management and manufacturing of OSH equipment.

  • OSH practitioners.

  • Corporate bodies including small and medium industries.

  • Academicians involved in the field of safety, health and environment.

What are the different types of NIOSH Membership?

Individual Membership Private individuals who are Malaysian citizens and are involved in safety and Health working environment.Corporate Membership Corporations incorporated under the Companies Act 1965 or organizations set up under the Societies Act 1966.

Can a subsidiary of a company be a member?

Membership for corporation is limited to companies approved by the Board and does not include subsidiary company/ies.Subsidiaries are required to submit separate applications for membership.

What is the duration of membership?

The duration of membership is one (1) year, starting from January to December of the year

Can NIOSH terminate its members?

Members who fail to pay the membership fees six (6) months from the date of expiry of membership will be suspended.

Membership will only be continued after full settlement of outstanding fees.

Id payment is not made after twelve (12) months from the date of expiry; membership will be terminated without further notice.

What is the fee charged to become a member?

Individual Membership (initial RM600.00)
  • Entrance : RM500.00

  • Annual Subscription : RM100.00

Corporate membership (initial RM1,500.00)

  • Entrance : RM1,200.00

  • Annual Subscription : RM300.00

How to apply?

Individual Membership:
  • Fill in relevant form.

  • Submit application with the relevant documents (Copy of IC, Resume and Certificates).

  • Payment should be made payable to NIOSH and address to the Executive Secretary NIOSH.

Corporate Membership:

  • Fill in relevant form.

  • Copy of nominee;s IC/ passport, Organisation chart showing designation of the nominee in the company and Company Registration Certificate.

  • Payment should be made payable to NIOSH and address to the Executive Secretary NIOSH.

Administrative Information

COURSE ADMISSION
Admission is on a first-come first-serve basis. However, if a course is full, the candidate will be offered admission for the next available course. Bookings may be via post, fax, and NIOSH website (www.niosh.com.my). However, confirmation is only made upon receipt of the complete registration form and full payment. The management of NIOSH reserves the right to refuse admission in any programmes if the participant fails to produce the required payment or letter of guarantee on the day of registration.
 
All applications are made official through the receipt of course application forms. NIOSH will not entertain any admission claims through verbal communications, such as phone bookings, letters, e-mails or fax messages without using an application form.
 
Formal qualifications (certified true copy) are required for the Certificate and Competency Programme.
 
A copy of the registration form is enclosed at the back of this handbook or you can download it from our website or call us to get a fax copy. Photocopies of the registration form are accepted.
 
PAYMENT

The full payment is payable upon registration, and is made in advance of the course. Cheques/Bank Drafts/Money Orders should be crossed and payable to the NIOSH. Personal cheques are NOT accepted. For government sectors, a local order or a letter of approval to attend the course is acceptable. Walk-in participants with full payment may also be admitted, depending on the availability of space. Special discounts will be given to members of NIOSH and government officers (with a confirmation letter from the employer). Fees are inclusive of course materials, certificates, morning and afternoon teas and lunches, site visits and transportation where applicable. For in-house training the fees are inclusive of course material and certificate only. Fees are also subjected to 6% service tax.

 
CANCELLATION/FAILURE TO ATTEND
Once registration is made, fees remain payable unless a notice of cancellation is received as follows:
1. At least 7 days before the course date, a full refund will be given (minus RM50.00 for administrative charges).
2. Less than 7 days but more than 3 days, a 50% refund will be given plus a set of course notes.
3. Less than 3 days, no refund will be made. However, a substitute delegate can be admitted to the course.
 
VENUE
Courses are held mainly at the NIOSH premises at Bandar Baru Bangi or at our branches in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kemaman, Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Kuching, Miri and Bintulu (Sarawak) (unless specified otherwise). In-house courses are held at a venue of the client's preference.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. Registration starts from 8.30 am - 8.45 am and the training starts in between 8.45 am - 9.00 am. The complete course programme will be given to the participants on the registration day. Participants are advised to come early on the registration day.
2. Casual attire is acceptable for course. However, round-neck T-shirts and sandals/slippers are not permissible in the training rooms. Please be prepared with jacket/extra clothing as the temperature in certain training rooms can get extremely low, especially during rainy days.
3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required for site visits or practical training. Please bring your own safety helmets, boots, ear protectors, safety gloves etc..Participants are encouraged to bring a calculator for practical and calculating purposes.
